Kayak Core Fitness Now at Koru

Koru Adding Kayak Core Fitness to their Summer Fitness Schedule
(Avon, NC) May 27, 2010 – Koru Village, Hatteras Island’s only spa, salon, fitness center, yoga studio, & villa accommodations is adding a new class to their summer fitness schedule. Kayak Core Fitness, instructed by kayaking enthusiast Carl Giordano, will begin its first classes the first week of June. Kayak Core Fitness is a complete body workout while paddling on the Pamlico Sound. This is not an eco tour, but rather an intense workout while enjoying the great outdoors!
Kayak Core Fitness starts with a beginner course in which proper paddle technique is taught. A proper kayak paddle stroke involves the legs, abdominals, back and arm muscles, not just the arms! You will quickly come to realize the fully-body workout potential that kayaking offers. The course will also cover basic kayak safety topics in the shallow waters of the Pamlico Sound. The objective of this course is to prepare you for the more intense endurance and strength classes that we offer. Once you have mastered your paddle technique, you will be ready to participate in our Strength and Endurance class. This class will combine long distance paddles with short interval training exercises. The combination results in a full body workout like nothing you’ve ever experienced before. Be prepared to get wet and get fit in the shallow waters of the Pamlico Sound!
“Paddling in not only an amazing full body workout, but there is something very calming and therapeutic about being on the water. Still, you have an instructor to guide you and motivate you as if you’re in a spinning class. But you’re not. You’re outside surrounded by nothing but water and sky. You can’t help but feel connected to it all. It’s a feeling you cannot get in a gym. It requires the peace and serenity of the great outdoors,” says instructor Carl Giordano
Many people are drawn to kayaking to seek out the general fitness benefits it offers – losing weight, building strength and muscle tone, and increasing health. The paddling done on a kayak is good for the cardiovascular system and a great form of upper body strength training. Kayaking also requires core strength. Core strength is the foundation of paddling correctly, and strong muscles in the abdomen will give you better posture, slim your waistline and support the body physically during other forms of activity.
